A one-time rising figure in the Democratic Party now sits in a Baldwin County correctional facility after authorities detained him on substance-related allegations. Andrew Gillum, 46, who nearly secured Florida's top executive post in 2018, was apprehended by officers who claim he carried illicit substances along with marijuana and associated items. The incident was first reported by Blick.

Six years ago, Gillum fell just short in his bid to lead the nation's third-most-populous state, losing to Ron DeSantis by a razor-thin margin. His political trajectory has since reversed dramatically.

This is not the first time the ex-mayor of Tallahassee has attracted police scrutiny. During a 2020 episode at a Sunshine State lodging, paramedics found him and another individual in a stupor. Although authorities confiscated methamphetamine from the scene, the case never moved forward because proof remained inadequate.

Images released by the sheriff's department depict Gillum clad in standard inmate garb.
