Federal law enforcement agencies disrupted a suspected assassination plot targeting U.S. President Donald Trump during a UFC fighting event held near the White House in Washington D.C. Several individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the scheme.
According to Novinky.cz, FBI Director Kash Patel announced on social media platform X that on June 10, the Bureau and its security partners learned of a potential threat to the UFC America 250 tournament. The event, which took place on June 14 — Trump's 80th birthday — attracted approximately four thousand spectators.
"Thanks to the rapid intervention of the FBI, our partners, and the Department of Justice in a multi-state operation, several individuals are now in custody and the allegedly planned attacks were immediately stopped," Patel stated.
A Fox News report cited by Patel provided additional details. By Monday, five people were in custody, and investigators identified a total of 23 individuals as part of a suspected conspiracy network. The alleged plan reportedly involved explosive-laden drones to attack buildings near the event venue, triggering a mass evacuation and directing crowds toward a pre-positioned group of snipers. The attackers allegedly intended a second wave of strikes targeting the White House entrance gate.
Sean Curran, director of the U.S. Secret Service, confirmed that agents worked continuously in the days leading up to the weekend to identify those responsible. Further details will be disclosed in court documents, he added.
This is not the first attempt on Trump's life. In April, an armed man carrying firearms and knives entered a Washington hotel where the president was attending a dinner. A security officer was injured in that incident. In July 2024, a gunman opened fire during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, wounding Trump in the ear and killing one supporter. Another man was arrested in September 2024 after aiming a rifle through a fence at Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida while the president was playing golf.
