Flint Township parents charged with murder and torture in son's death

Two Flint Township parents have been charged with multiple felonies in connection with the death of their seven-year-old son, wnem.com reports.

Damien and Jessica O'Brien face charges of second-degree murder, torture, and multiple counts of child abuse. According to a complaint filed by the Genesee County Prosecutor's Office, the couple caused serious physical harm to the child, who weighed 255 pounds at the time of his death and was immobile.

Prosecutors allege the O'Briens failed to seek medical care for their son and did not provide a safe living environment prior to his death. Law enforcement began investigating the parents on 4 November 2025.

Court records show the pair also face second-degree child abuse charges relating to a second child, a five-year-old girl. According to the complaint, the girl was found to be morbidly obese, dirty, with knots in her hair, and was discovered naked outside by law enforcement.

If convicted on all charges, both Damien and Jessica O'Brien could each face life in prison.
