Former NFL defensive end and sports broadcaster Marcellus Wiley was arrested on 4 July at the World Center Marriott resort in Central Florida on domestic violence charges, floridatoday.com reports.

Deputies responded to the hotel after Wiley's wife, Annemarie Wiley, said she was afraid of her husband. According to the arrest report, Annemarie told officers that Marcellus had threatened to kill her and that the previous morning he had touched her without her consent. No physical injuries were found on Annemarie.

Marcellus told deputies the couple had not engaged in a physical altercation and presented text messages he described as cordial, sent between the two over the preceding day. He said he believed his wife had contacted authorities because she intends to file for divorce once the family returns to their home in California.

The couple and their three children were in the area for a basketball tournament.

Deputies determined there was probable cause for arrest on domestic battery charges. Wiley was taken to jail and has since posted bond; he is prohibited from contacting his wife.

Wiley spent ten seasons in the NFL, representing the Buffalo Bills, San Diego Chargers and Jacksonville Jaguars among others. The defensive end was selected to one Pro Bowl and retired following the 2006 season, after which he joined ESPN and Fox Sports as a broadcaster.

Annemarie Wiley appeared as a cast member on season 13 of Bravo's reality series Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and did not return for the subsequent season.
