Eight Arrested in Foiled Plot to Assassinate Trump and Vance with Drones and Snipers at White House Event
Federal authorities in the United States unveiled one of the most serious domestic terrorism cases in recent years, charging eight men with a conspiracy to murder President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other high-ranking officials during the Freedom 250 event held on June 14 at the White House.
The federal indictment, filed in Ohio, consolidates investigations that had been opened across multiple states. Prosecutors allege the group formed an organized conspiracy with the objective of killing the U.S. president, the vice president, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, entrepreneur Elon Musk, and other government officials and civilians attending the ceremony.
The eight defendants face charges of conspiracy to provide material support to terrorist activity and conspiracy to assassinate federal officials on U.S. soil. These offenses carry sentences ranging from 15 years imprisonment to life behind bars.
According to the indictment, the group began organizing as early as May, collecting funds, semi-automatic weapons, thousands of rounds of ammunition, explosives, drones, bulletproof vests, medical equipment, radios, and other military-style gear. Members conducted shooting practice and received tactical combat training.
Based on sworn testimony from the FBI, the initial phase of the plot involved flying drones loaded with explosives over the venue. The blasts were intended to trigger mass panic, forcing thousands of attendees and the protected dignitaries toward designated escape exits. At precisely those locations, deployed snipers would open fire against both the high-profile targets and the fleeing crowd. Earlier court documents also reference a second phase, in which an armed team would attempt to advance toward the White House gates, exploiting the chaos created.
The FBI learned of the threat four days before the event. The investigation began on June 10, when federal agencies received intelligence about an imminent attack against the ceremony. A coordinated operation involving the FBI, the Secret Service, and multiple federal prosecutors followed. The first arrests took place in Ohio, Missouri, Nebraska, and California. Over the following days, two additional suspects were apprehended in Washington and Missouri. The eighth defendant was arrested this week in West Virginia.
Prosecutors note that the accused primarily used the Signal app and other encrypted platforms to exchange maps, photographs, escape routes, and potential targets.
The indictment also describes a strict internal hierarchy. Members were divided into participation tiers, with first-level individuals pledging their willingness to break the law, engage in armed action, and even disappear after the assault to avoid capture.
