A 29-year-old woman in Memphis, Tennessee, is facing murder and child abuse charges after investigators say she admitted to torturing and killing her boyfriend's 3-year-old son, reports WAFB.

Dominica Mosby was arrested following an emergency call placed last Saturday. The toddler's father found his son lifeless inside a local home; responders arrived and declared the boy dead on the spot.

Initially, Mosby told officers she had tucked the child in after he felt unwell. She later changed her account during questioning, allegedly confessing to horrific mistreatment. According to investigators, she burned the youngster's genitals with a cigarette after he wet himself and also pressed a lit cigarette into his ear. She further admitted to pounding and stepping on his midsection repeatedly when he would not comply with her demands.

The county medical examiner classified the death as homicide. A post-mortem examination showed the victim had a torn liver, stomach hemorrhaging, chest contusions, and cigarette burns on his ear and private area.

Relatives told detectives they had spotted earlier wounds on the child. The victim's aunt specifically informed authorities she had seen previous injuries.

Mosby is jailed with no bail set while awaiting further proceedings.
