A Utah court has heard that the man accused of murdering right-wing activist Charlie Kirk appeared distressed and sorry about the shooting the following morning. The account came from the person who lived in the same apartment as the defendant.

Tyler Robinson, aged 23, is facing a murder charge at a preliminary hearing in Provo. If the case proceeds to trial and he is found guilty, capital punishment is a possible outcome. Authorities allege Robinson opened fire on Kirk on September 11, 2025, while the activist was delivering remarks outside on a college campus.

The cohabitant stated that when he encountered Robinson at their residence the next day, the younger man was restless and in tears. According to the witness, Robinson uttered words to the effect that he wished the act had never happened. To cope, Robinson kept busy with various activities around the home, seemingly trying to occupy his mind. While he avoided specifics about the gunfire, he affirmed that his earlier written statements to the roommate were accurate.

Those earlier exchanges, conducted via messaging apps on the night of the incident, were presented as evidence. The roommate had questioned Robinson's motive, to which Robinson responded by stating he could no longer tolerate Kirk's hostility and that certain forms of hatred cannot be resolved through discussion.

Kirk built a national profile through Turning Point USA, an organization that staged events at universities to provoke political argument, particularly with left-leaning students. Opponents labeled his rhetoric as bigoted across multiple categories. He was also an outspoken backer of Donald Trump and played a visible role in the former president's political base.
