A man identified as Adrián Luján was captured in California's Central Valley after strangling his girlfriend and causing the death of his two-year-old son in San Juan Bautista, according to Univision.

The crime took place in the early hours of Sunday, June 7, around 12:15 a.m., at a residence located at 107 The Alameda, west of Hollister. The 34-year-old woman was asleep when she felt her partner choking her. She managed to fight back, at which point the man left the property and fled in a Ford Fusion.

After the assault, the mother could not find her child in his bed and began searching. She eventually found him on the sofa: the boy appeared blue and unconscious. A 911 call brought authorities to the scene, where they attempted to resuscitate the toddler. However, after being transported to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced dead. The police report indicates the child died from strangulation. Another child, aged four, was also present in the home during the incident.

Law enforcement launched an operation to locate Luján, eventually apprehending him with assistance from the Merced County Sheriff's Office. Authorities stated that the arrest followed a pursuit and a physical confrontation in the Central Valley area. He was later extradited to San Benito County, where he confessed to the child's murder.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the motives behind the killing and the attack have not yet been determined. San Benito County Sheriff Eric Taylor revealed that, according to the suspect's statement, the man had planned to murder his entire family before being interrupted.
