Two adults and two young children were found dead inside a home on the 2100 block of Kingston Street in Houston's River Oaks neighbourhood on Monday evening, according to abc7.com.

Officers from the Houston Police Department responded to a welfare check at around 5:26 p.m. after a babysitter raised the alarm, telling police she had not heard from the family. Upon arrival, officers entered the property and discovered all four victims.

The Houston Police Department identified the deceased as Matthew Mitchell, 52, and his wife Thy Mitchell, along with their two children, aged 8 and 4. The children's names were not released by authorities. The family were the owners of Traveler's Table, a Houston hospitality group.

Detectives believe the incident is a murder-suicide. The Houston Police Department named Matthew Mitchell as the suspect in the case.

Both the babysitter and a family member had separately reported being unable to reach the Mitchells, prompting the welfare check that led to the discovery.
