A 41-year-old employee of a tire shop was fatally shot Friday night in the Dos Bocas neighborhood of Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, authorities said. A female customer waiting for service was also injured in the gunfire.
The victim was identified as Alexis Polanco Amparo, a Dominican national who had a prior criminal record for forging licenses, certificates, and other documents, according to Telemundo Puerto Rico.
Preliminary reports indicate that Polanco Amparo was working at the establishment when shooters opened fire from a moving vehicle. The female customer, who was waiting to be served, was struck but is reported to be in stable condition.
During a search of the victim's residence, authorities seized an illegal handgun and a large sum of cash. Investigators have not ruled out a possible connection to drug trafficking.
The Carolina Criminal Investigations Corps has taken charge of the case. No arrests have been announced as of the latest reports.
