Israel Warns U.S. of Alleged New Iranian Assassination Plot Against Trump
Israel has delivered fresh intelligence to the United States suggesting that Iran is drawing up a new plan to assassinate American President Donald Trump, according to reporting by the Wall Street Journal (source).
Tehran has vowed retaliation against Trump for years over the January 2020 drone strike that killed Qasem Soleimani, commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard. The Israeli embassy in Washington declined to comment on the claims, while Iran’s mission to the United Nations did not immediately respond to requests for comment, the newspaper reported, citing well-informed sources.
The White House directed the Wall Street Journal to remarks Trump made Wednesday in Ankara, where he confirmed he is the object of Iranian threats. "They want to take out the leader of the U.S., me. I’m on all their lists," Trump stated, adding that he has been fortunate so far but is unsure how long that will continue.
The Wall Street Journal also reported that funeral ceremonies for the late Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei included chants demanding Trump’s death, with some participants carrying a banner reading "We will kill Trump."
Meanwhile, relations between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have grown strained in recent weeks over diverging strategies toward Iran. The two leaders spoke frequently by phone at the start of the war with Iran, but recent conversations have become considerably more tense. Netanyahu favors continued military strikes and pursuing additional battlefield objectives, while Trump is pushing to end the conflict because he is concerned about its impact on the global economy.
The United States reached a fragile ceasefire with Iran last month, though Trump declared it dead during his stop in Ankara. On Thursday, the Israeli prime minister’s office posted on social media platform X that Trump had briefed Netanyahu by phone on the latest American activities in the Persian Gulf.
