Architect Rex Heuermann, 62, was convicted on Wednesday of murdering and dismembering eight women in the Gilgo Beach area of New York. The killings occurred between 1993 and 2010. He received three consecutive life sentences for first-degree murder, plus 25 years for second-degree murder.

The Long Island murders remained unsolved for more than three decades. In 2022, investigators followed up on a tip from a 2010 interview, which led them to Heuermann. He was arrested the following year at his Manhattan office, and his DNA was linked to several victims.

Prior to his arrest, Heuermann led a double life in a suburban home with his wife and two children. He only confessed to the crimes in April this year, after being held in custody for three years. All victims are believed to have worked in the sex industry.

During the sentencing hearing, Judge Timothy Mazzei delivered harsh words to Heuermann. Several family members of the victims also gave emotional statements before the sentence was handed down.
