On the early morning of July 31, 2022, a tragic incident occurred in Strongsville, Ohio, that ended with the deaths of two young men. At the time, 17-year-old Mackenzie Shirilla was driving a Toyota Camry at high speed directly into the brick wall of an industrial building. Inside the vehicle were her boyfriend Dominic Russo and friend Davion Flanagan, both of whom died at the scene. The driver herself sustained serious injuries.

Investigators reviewed security camera footage and data from the vehicle’s black box, which painted a disturbing picture. The car’s speed climbed to approximately 160 kilometers per hour before impact. Crucially, there were no signs of braking or any attempt to swerve. The vehicle traveled straight into the wall, with the driver’s foot pressing the accelerator pedal to the floor throughout. Shirilla claimed she could not remember anything about the incident.

Police examined Shirilla’s life and her relationship with Russo. A court ruled the act was intentional and convicted her of two murders. The case has drawn extensive media attention.
