Google News MT — Crime (en) reports that Kentucky State Police, Post 13 in Hazard, received a 911 call shortly after 4:00 p.m. on Monday, 6 July 2026, reporting a shooting on Sheas Fork in the McRoberts community of Letcher County.
Troopers arriving at the scene found an adult male with a single gunshot wound to the chest. Emergency medical personnel treated the victim on site before transporting him to Whitesburg ARH Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
The preliminary investigation identified Hibert Tackett, 65, of McRoberts, as the suspect. Tackett had fled before law enforcement arrived but was subsequently located and taken into custody without incident.
He was charged with Assault 1st Degree and Tampering with Physical Evidence, and was lodged in the Letcher County Jail. Detective Nathan Roark is leading the ongoing investigation.
