A 25-year-old woman was fatally shot by her former boyfriend on a highway in Carolina, Puerto Rico, after he deliberately crashed into her vehicle.

A 25-year-old woman was killed by her ex-partner Tuesday afternoon while driving on the Román Baldorioty de Castro Expressway in Carolina, Puerto Rico.
The attacker, identified as José Carlos Sanjurjo Dávila, 26, intercepted the victim, Gemillies Lozada Navarro, and intentionally collided with her car, causing her to lose control and hit a guardrail. He then approached the driver's side and shot her, resulting in her death.
After the shooting, Sanjurjo returned to his own vehicle and attempted to take his own life. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported him to Dr. Federico Trilla Hospital in Carolina, where he was later pronounced dead while receiving medical treatment.
The victim's sister, Génesis Lozada, stated that Sanjurjo had been stalking her sister persistently. She revealed that the young woman had previously sought a protective order against him, but the request was denied. The couple had been in a six-year relationship and shared two children, ages six and five.
"She was afraid. Unfortunately, he kept chasing her, even going to our parents' house. In one of the recent incidents, he tried to take the children by force and she wouldn't allow it," the sister told Telemundo Puerto Rico.
According to the same source, in recent weeks the man had been harassing the victim through a money-transfer application, sending her one dollar at a time along with messages.
Personnel from the Homicide Division of the Criminal Investigations Corps (C.I.C.) in Carolina, together with the on-duty prosecutor, have taken charge of the investigation. Authorities have advised drivers to use alternate routes, as the highway remains closed while investigative work continues at the scene.
