Google News MT — Crime (en) reports that Bryan Mayer, 49, lead singer of the popular Eastern Carolina act The I-42 Band, was arrested in Beaufort, North Carolina, on 20 counts of trafficking cocaine, as well as a charge of maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of trafficking and distributing drugs.

Carteret County Sheriff John Nyberg said deputies took Mayer into custody at approximately 9:00 a.m. during a controlled drug purchase, the culmination of a two-month undercover investigation. During the course of that investigation, officers seized nearly a pound of cocaine from the Trent Woods resident.

A court appearance scheduled for the same morning was delayed. Mayer's bond was set at $1,000,000.

The I-42 Band describes itself as a high-energy dance, party, and beach band. The group was booked to perform at Morehead City's 'Alive at 5' event on the evening of the arrest. Downtown Morehead City announced in a post that the band's remaining members had decided to proceed with the performance.
