At least eight individuals — among them four children — were struck by gunfire during Independence Day festivities in New York's Coney Island neighborhood, according to ABC News citing the New York Police Department.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire on West 31st Street in Brooklyn at approximately 10:37 p.m. local time.
The wounded included two adult men, two adult women, and four minors aged 14, 12, seven, and six. Emergency services transported all victims to hospital. Seven were reported in stable condition, while a 21-year-old woman remained in critical condition.
Authorities recovered a firearm at the scene. No arrests had been made in connection with the incident at the time of reporting.
