Kevin O'Connor, who taught music at a local school, was taken into custody Tuesday on a second-degree murder charge. He was arraigned Wednesday in a Suffolk County courtroom.

The victim, thirty-seven-year-old Jennifer O'Connor, was discovered unconscious at a residence in East Islip on the evening of July 4. She was declared dead at a nearby medical facility.

According to prosecutors, the defendant harbored an obsessive attraction toward his wife's sister for an extended period. During the Independence Day gathering, he allegedly followed her into a bedroom and strangled her.

Law enforcement sources indicated the accused made incriminating statements to relatives following the killing. Family members contacted emergency services, who arrived to find the victim with visible injuries consistent with asphyxiation.

The defendant has been employed as a music instructor in the local school district. District officials issued a statement confirming his employment and noting they are cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

O'Connor is being held without bail pending further court proceedings. His attorney has not yet commented publicly on the allegations.
