Long Island music teacher accused of raping and killing sister-in-law
A 27-year-old music teacher from Long Island, New York is facing serious criminal charges after authorities say he sexually assaulted and then killed his sister-in-law inside the family home while his wife was away.
According to law enforcement officials, the suspect called the 25-year-old woman to the residence in North Massapequa under the pretense of needing help moving a piano. Prosecutors allege that once she arrived, he attacked her from behind, strangled her until she lost consciousness, and then raped her.
The man himself dialed 911 shortly after the incident and remained at the scene until police arrived. Authorities say he admitted to the assault against the 25-year-old victim, who was rushed to hospital in critical condition but later died from her injuries.
The prosecution also claims the accused had developed an obsessive fixation on the victim dating back to 2017, several years before the fatal attack. The woman was a doctoral candidate at Stony Brook University and lived on the ground floor of the same house, while the suspect and his wife occupied the upper floor.
During his first court appearance, the defendant pleaded not guilty. However, the judge ordered him held without bail. The school district where he worked announced that he has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the legal proceedings.
His defense attorney described the case as a tragedy for the family, noting that the accused had maintained a positive professional reputation as an educator until this incident. American authorities say their investigation is continuing.
