A male who allegedly equipped himself with cutting weapons was apprehended following a lengthy standoff inside a commercial establishment in Fullerton on Sunday afternoon.
Municipal law enforcement received an emergency call shortly after 1:30 p.m. regarding a person behaving unpredictably within a shop near South Harbor Boulevard and West Orangethorpe Avenue. The lone worker inside managed to escape unharmed after the individual grabbed a blade, then phoned emergency services.
Once isolated inside, the person caused considerable destruction to the interior and menaced to injure himself, according to official statements. He reportedly obtained a hatchet and another blade during the episode.
Personnel attempted to persuade him to exit peacefully, but he declined and persisted in damaging the property. Multiple neighboring enterprises were cleared of occupants as the situation stretched on.
Shortly before 3:45 p.m., municipal officers and a regional tactical unit entered and subdued the individual. He was transported to a medical facility for wounds he had inflicted upon himself.
Authorities have not yet released his identity. Upon discharge from care, he faces booking on accusations of serious property destruction, obstructing peace officers and issuing menacing statements.
