Man opens fire on police with rifle in Montgomery, Alabama — 30+ rounds fired

A man fired more than 30 rounds at officers responding to a domestic disturbance call in Montgomery, Alabama. He was taken into custody by SWAT and faces attempted murder charges.

Google News MT — Crime (en) reports that a man in Montgomery, Alabama, opened fire on police officers late Thursday night, discharging more than 30 rounds before being taken into custody.

Montgomery Police Department (MPD) officers were dispatched to the 9400 block of Bristlecone Drive, off Ray Thorington Road in the Deer Creek subdivision, at around 11:30 p.m. following a domestic disturbance call.

"Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact with an intoxicated adult male who had armed himself with multiple weapons, including a rifle equipped with a high-capacity magazine," MPD said in a statement. "During their approach, Bowers fired more than thirty rounds at officers. No officers were injured."

MPD SWAT units responded to the scene and took Bowers into custody without further incident.

Bowers is now being held without bond at the Montgomery County Detention Facility. He faces charges of discharging a firearm into an unoccupied vehicle and two counts of attempted murder.

The MPD chief thanked SWAT officers and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office for their rapid response to the scene.
