Deputies arrived at a residential road in Kittrell shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday after receiving reports of gunfire. They found two people suffering from bullet wounds. One of them, a 38-year-old man, did not survive. The second victim, a woman, was transported for emergency care. Investigators have not clarified whether the female survivor and the accused share a family connection, despite having identical surnames.

The accused remains in jail with no possibility of release on bail.
