Google News MT — Crime (en) reports that a 72-year-old man was taken into custody by Philadelphia Police SWAT officers on Sunday, 5 July 2026, after barricading himself inside a Northeast Philadelphia home following a domestic shooting.

Officers responded at around 8:44 p.m. to a residence on the 8700 block of Perch Lane after reports of a woman being shot. On arrival, they found a 69-year-old woman who had been struck once in the left buttock. Her husband, still on the second floor of the home and armed with a firearm, had not surrendered.

Philadelphia Police declared a barricade situation due to the armed man remaining inside. The SWAT Unit was deployed to the scene and, following a brief standoff, took the suspect into custody without further incident.

Medics treated the man at the scene for various ailments unrelated to the shooting as well as intoxication, police said. He was subsequently admitted to hospital for pre-existing medical conditions.

The woman was transported to hospital and is listed in stable condition, according to police.

The identities of both individuals have not been released. The investigation remains ongoing.
