Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department responded at around 8:44 p.m. to a residence on the 8700 block of Perch Lane following a report of a shooting. On arrival, they found a 69-year-old woman who had been shot once in the left buttock by her husband. The man remained inside the home, armed with a firearm.
Because the suspect refused to leave the property, police declared a barricade situation. Members of the Philadelphia Police SWAT Unit were deployed to the scene and, following a brief standoff, took the man into custody without further incident.
Medics treated the man at the scene for intoxication and various ailments unrelated to the shooting. He was subsequently admitted to hospital for pre-existing medical conditions.
The woman was transported to hospital and is listed in stable condition.
The identities of the two individuals have not been released. The investigation is ongoing.
