Gunfire erupted at the Peace Arch frontier crossing on Tuesday when U.S. border agents confronted a man with a prior criminal record, leaving him wounded and facing prosecution.

Nathanial A. Muniz-Spry, aged 39 and hailing from Everson in Washington state, appeared before a Seattle federal magistrate the following day. Court papers accuse him of carrying a weapon despite his status as a previously convicted offender.

The clash occurred mid-morning at Peace Arch Park in Blaine, Washington, a stone's throw from the line separating the United States and British Columbia. A CBP agent discharged their service weapon during the interaction, striking Muniz-Spry, who was subsequently given medical care.

Investigators located a weapon at the scene. The FBI has assumed control of the criminal inquiry, while CBP's internal affairs division separately examines whether the agent's decision to fire was warranted.

Blaine municipal authorities used Instagram to inform locals that no public safety threat persisted after the event.
