A 40-year-old man was arrested after a 29-year-old woman was shot and taken to UAB St. Vincent's East hospital in a domestic violence incident.

A 40-year-old man faces domestic violence and weapons charges after a 29-year-old woman was shot and seriously injured in the Birmingham area, wbrc.com reports.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says deputies were called to UAB St. Vincent's East hospital on Wednesday, April 29, following reports of a woman with gunshot wounds. A preliminary investigation led authorities to conclude the suspect had forced the victim into his vehicle before driving her to the hospital for treatment.

Detectives located and arrested the suspect — identified as Anthony Canada — on Thursday, April 30, in the 5400 block of 12th Court in the Wylam area.

Canada was charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling or vehicle and first-degree domestic violence. He is being held in the Jefferson County Jail with no bond.
