Five individuals face federal charges for allegedly plotting a mass-casualty attack on a gala event held on the White House South Lawn during President Donald Trump's 80th birthday weekend. Investigators say the suspects intended to use explosive-laden drones to sow panic among attendees, then open fire on the fleeing crowd.

The target was the UFC Freedom 250 gala, which took place over the weekend. According to court documents cited by the Washington Post, the group planned a two-phase assault: first detonating drones carrying explosives above the crowd to trigger chaos, then shooting at people as they ran.

The suspects initially connected through TikTok before moving their communications to the encrypted messaging app Signal. Federal investigators managed to infiltrate these chats and uncover the plot before it could be carried out.

The Justice Department announced arrests across four states — California, Missouri, Nebraska, and Ohio. Investigators said the group discussed specific targets, drone launch points, and escape routes. The probe remains active, and authorities have not ruled out the possibility that additional people were involved.

At the center of the case is 19-year-old Tycen Proper, who investigators say has admitted to planning the attack. He remains in custody.

FBI Director Kash Patel stated that the multi-state operation succeeded in stopping the planned attacks before they could be executed.

President Trump, who is currently attending the G7 summit in France, told reporters he learned about the plot from media coverage.
