Massachusetts Mother Accused of Strangling Three Young Children to Death
Prosecutors in Massachusetts are presenting new evidence in one of the most disturbing family tragedies the state has seen in recent years. Lindsay Clancy, a 35-year-old former nurse, faces charges for the January 2023 killings of her three children inside the family's Duxbury residence, according to NewsIT.
Court documents describe the act as one of "extreme cruelty and brutality." Investigators allege that Clancy used exercise bands to strangle her offspring in the basement of the house. The victims were Cora, age 5; Dawson, age 3; and Callan, who was just 8 months old.
The children's father, Patrick Clancy, discovered the bodies and placed the emergency call to 911. During that recorded call, he reportedly shouted at dispatchers: "She killed the kids." Prosecutors intend to use this audio recording as key evidence during the July trial.
The defense does not dispute that Clancy caused the deaths. Instead, her attorneys argue that she suffered from severe postpartum depression and was under the influence of strong medication at the time. They plan to invoke a defense of diminished responsibility. Additionally, both Clancy and her husband have filed legal action against her physicians, claiming misdiagnosis and improper treatment.
The case has drawn significant attention to the intersection of maternal mental health and criminal accountability in the United States.
