A law enforcement officer was struck in the face while working a shooting scene in downtown Minneapolis during the early hours of Sunday, authorities reported.

Patrol units were dispatched to 126 Fifth Street North at approximately 2:07 a.m. after receiving reports that a man outside Cowboy Jack's had been shot. The victim was transported to a medical facility with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

While officers were conducting their investigation at the scene, a crowd began forming in the surrounding area. The gathering grew increasingly volatile, according to police accounts.

During attempts to calm the situation, one officer was punched by an individual in the crowd. The assailant managed to escape and remains at large. The officer did not sustain any reported injuries from the blow.

A separate confrontation also erupted within the same crowd, leading to the arrest of one person on a disorderly conduct charge.

Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances that led to the initial gunfire.
