Google News MT — Crime (en) reports that Montgomery police have arrested 18-year-old Malik Demetrius Millender in connection with a deadly drive-by shooting that claimed the life of 6-year-old Caylee Taylor.
The Montgomery Police Department has charged Millender with three counts of capital murder. Court records indicate he fired into the home using an AR-15 rifle.
The shooting took place early Monday around 2:20 a.m. on Mulligan Drive. Officers and fire medics responded to reports of a person shot and found Caylee suffering from a gunshot wound. She had been asleep in her bed when the gunfire erupted outside the house.
Caylee was transported to hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Millender was booked into the Montgomery County Detention Facility late Monday night and is being held without bond.
Caylee was a student at Morningview Elementary School, according to Montgomery Public Schools. Superintendent Dr. Zickeyous Byrd issued a statement Tuesday morning expressing grief over the loss.
"The loss of a child is felt throughout our entire MPS family," Byrd said. "No child should ever lose their life to violence, and no family should have to endure the heartbreak of such a devastating tragedy."
Police have not released further details about the investigation or the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
