A California municipal police force has broadened its internal inquiry and removed additional personnel from active duty after new information came to light about a bizarre workplace shooting. Chief Gene Harris confirmed the expanded disciplinary measures Monday, according to ABC7 Los Angeles.

The controversy centers on events from last autumn. Footage made public last week depicts a uniformed patrol member pulling his pistol and pointing it at a coworker sitting in a squad car, then putting it away. The seated cop also drew his weapon, which somehow fired. The bullet smashed through the glass and hit the first man in the shoulder area.

Harris said a civilian contacted detectives with fresh details after the clip was released. Documents that arrived Sunday, June 14, sparked a reopened investigation.

"The officers alleged to be involved have been placed on Administrative Leave — not simply because it's policy, but because it reflects how seriously we take matters like this," the chief stated. "When questions arise about conduct, we act."

Harris named Roy Alatorre as the cop whose gun went off. Alatorre has since been dismissed. The injured party healed completely and still works there.

Mayor Victor Gordo harshly criticized the behavior, labeling it "juvenile, unacceptable behavior at the highest level." He expressed regret to the public and said the chief guaranteed such conduct would not recur.

Prosecutors are now reviewing whether criminal charges are warranted. Harris committed to publishing the new inquiry's conclusions once finished.
