Google News MT — Crime (en) reports that Blaise Taylor, a former Division I collegiate football player and Tennessee Titans scout, entered his fourth day of trial in Nashville on Friday.

Taylor is accused of poisoning his 25-year-old girlfriend, Jade Benning, on 25 February 2023. Benning was pregnant at the time, and Taylor is alleged to have been the father.

According to prosecutors, Taylor called 911 following the incident, claiming Benning appeared to be suffering an allergic reaction. She was transported by ambulance to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The fetus died in the days that followed. Benning herself died on 6 March 2023, before police were able to interview her about the circumstances.

The first three days of proceedings included opening arguments from both the prosecution and the defence, as well as testimony from key witnesses. During an April 2024 hearing, a medical examiner testified that excessive amounts of cocaine had been found in Benning's system — quantities too high to attribute to recreational drug use.

Taylor was formally charged in both deaths months after Benning's death and was arrested on 26 March 2024.

He now faces two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of felony murder in connection with the deaths of Benning and her unborn child.
