Two women were found dead and a man was left with a serious gunshot wound inside a home on Scottsville Road in Macon County, Tennessee, late Thursday night, WSMV4 reports.
Deputies from the Macon County Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting call at the property and discovered the two women deceased inside. A man found at the scene had sustained a gunshot wound to the head that the sheriff's office said appeared to be self-inflicted. He was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
A neighbour confirmed to WSMV4 that the two victims were a mother and her adult daughter. The apparent shooter, the neighbour said, was the father.
Four other children were inside the home at the time, along with the adult daughter's baby and husband. Authorities were able to remove the children from the scene after the shooting, according to the neighbour.
The family had relocated to Tennessee from Massachusetts several years ago. The neighbour described the shooting as a complete shock, characterising the family as generous people who would help others in need. The family reportedly assisted neighbours during an ice storm in January 2026.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case, the sheriff's office confirmed. A Spanish-language report on the incident noted the two women were identified by neighbours as Hispanic.
No arrests have been publicly announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.
