Gunfire struck a New York City police detective in the borough of Brooklyn during the early morning hours on Sunday. The officer's injuries were described as not life-threatening.

Emergency services received a telephone alert shortly after 4:00 a.m. regarding shots discharged near the crossing of Nostrand Avenue and St. Johns Place in the Crown Heights section. Responding personnel discovered that a member of the detective bureau had been hit.

The projectile impacted the officer's ballistic vest, which likely prevented more serious harm. Medical personnel brought the wounded lawman to a hospital in the vicinity for evaluation and care.

Investigators later located a firearm believed connected to the incident. A young man, 18 years of age, was placed under arrest in connection with the shooting. Authorities anticipated addressing the media later that same day with additional information.
