A young man was filmed aboard a New York City subway train holding what he claimed was a stolen NYPD body camera, according to NY Post Metro, which first reported the incident Friday.

The 15-second clip, posted to TikTok on Thursday, shows what appears to be an Axon body camera — the brand issued to thousands of NYPD officers for recording arrests and police interactions. By Friday afternoon, the video had accumulated 107,000 likes.

In the post, the man states he "stole" the small black device. He and a group of other males then point the camera at themselves, jumping and chanting "Knicks in four! Knicks in four!" — a reference to the New York Knicks, who are playing the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals this week.

The clip's caption reads: "How does bro have an NYPD body camera," followed by laughing and crying emojis. The video also circulated on Instagram, drawing additional reactions from users.

The NYPD confirmed it is aware of the footage and is working to determine whether the camera belongs to their department, to another agency, or was simply purchased online, a police spokeswoman said.

Axon does not sell its cameras directly to the public, though units are available on eBay starting at around $300. At least one commenter on TikTok pointed out that the cameras can be bought through such secondary markets.

The incident has drawn mockery and concern in equal measure online. One user posted a photo of a stern-faced child with the caption: "Captain watching this live from his desk," in an apparent dig at NYPD leadership.
