Murder Suspect from Opelousas Caught in Nederland, Texas

A 33-year-old Opelousas man wanted for first-degree murder was arrested Tuesday at an apartment complex in Nederland, Texas. He awaits extradition to Louisiana.

Fugitive Held in Jefferson County Pending Louisiana Extradition

Diovanni LaFountain, 33, of Opelousas, Louisiana, was taken into custody in Nederland, Texas on Tuesday without incident, kplctv.com reports. Nederland police located him at an apartment complex on Nederland Avenue, where he was with a relative.

The arrest followed a request from the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force, which contacted Nederland police to assist in serving an outstanding murder warrant against LaFountain.

He is currently held at the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and faces charges of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Extradition proceedings to Louisiana are pending.
