Police in Paterson placed a 47-year-old city resident under arrest on June 4 following an alleged unlawful entry into a private home, the state's attorney general office announced.

The call reached dispatchers at approximately 1:19 p.m. concerning the property on the 300 block of Van Houten Street. Patrol units arrived promptly, cordoned off the area, and commenced their probe. Specialists from the Major Crimes Division and forensic teams also attended.

Investigators pieced together information that pointed to a nearby individual. Officers approached him without resistance and confirmed his involvement.

The person detained was identified as Rishee Jackson, who lives in Paterson. Prosecutors have filed a top-tier home invasion charge against him, plus lesser counts of larceny and making menacing threats.

New Jersey law sets penalties of a decade to two decades of incarceration and fines as steep as $200,000 for the most serious grade of offense. The lower-tier accusations carry possible terms of three to five years and fines capped at $15,000.

Department head Patrick Murray commended the personnel for their speed. He emphasized that forcible entries into residences rank among the gravest violations because they destroy the sanctuary people count on inside their own four walls.
