A 66-year-old Baton Rouge resident lost her life after being hit by a vehicle whose operator left the scene without assistance, authorities in Louisiana reported.

The deadly incident unfolded shortly after midnight on June 28 along the 6000 block of Plank Road. Patrol units were dispatched around 12:05 a.m. following emergency calls about a collision involving an automobile and someone walking along the thoroughfare.

The victim was later named as Carolyn Evens.

Based on the inquiry, the automobile had been moving in a northerly direction when it collided with Evens. People who observed the incident told officers the automobile appeared to be a dark athletic-style model. Rather than remaining at the location, the person behind the wheel continued onward.
