Two charged over Kailua-Kona Pier attack involving sexual assault, knife, and robbery

Hawaiʻi Island police have charged two suspects — a 23-year-old Kailua-Kona man and a juvenile male — following a sexual assault, robbery, and assault at the Kailua-Kona Pier on the night of Monday, 1 June 2026, hawaiipolice.gov reports.

Kona patrol officers were called to the pier at 10:58 p.m. after an altercation was reported. On arrival, they spoke to an adult male and female who said they had been asleep on the pier when two individuals — an adult male and a juvenile male — attacked them. The female victim told officers she woke to find the adult male engaging in sexual contact with her without her consent.

A physical confrontation then broke out between the male victim and the two suspects. During that struggle, the adult suspect allegedly used a knife to injure the male victim and forced him into the ocean. Investigators later established that the knife had likely been taken from the victims' own backpack before the assault began.

After the attack, the suspects reportedly took the backpack and left the area in a vehicle believed to have been driven by a third person.

Officers carried out checks nearby and found individuals matching the suspects' descriptions in a car park on the 75-900 block of Henry Street. The adult suspect was identified as Arley Alokoa, 23, of Kailua-Kona. A juvenile male was also identified; his identity has not been released due to his age.

Both Alokoa and the juvenile were arrested at 11:43 p.m. on 1 June. A knife matching the description given by the male victim was recovered from Alokoa at the time of arrest.

On Tuesday, 2 June, the juvenile was charged and subsequently transported to Family Court for his initial appearance. On Wednesday, 3 June, Alokoa was formally charged, with total bail set at $61,500.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Christopher Ross of the Area II Juvenile Aid Section at (808) 326-4646, ext. 302, or by email at [email protected].
