A driver who fled from police in Gulfport was shot and injured after the pursuit crossed city lines into Biloxi, Mississippi.

WLOX reported that several agencies took part in the chase. The pursuit moved from Gulfport into Biloxi and ended near the West Beach Boardwalk area, opposite Treasure Bay Casino.

The Biloxi Police Department said that personnel from both the Biloxi and Gulfport departments discharged their weapons at the motorist. Bullets struck the driver during the encounter.

Medical crews took the injured person to a hospital for care. Officials have not yet shared the individual's name, current medical state, or what triggered the initial attempt to stop the vehicle.

Numerous officers stayed at the Highway 90 location after the shooting as the probe continued.
