Law enforcement detained a motorist Wednesday after an extended pursuit along a major Southern California thoroughfare involving a vehicle reported as stolen.

The incident began when sheriff's deputies in the San Gabriel Valley spotted the automobile and confirmed its status as stolen, prompting the chase, according to NBC Los Angeles.

The silver sedan sped eastbound along Interstate 10. Deputies from Los Angeles County initially trailed the suspect. Once the pursuit crossed jurisdictional lines into Ontario, state highway patrol officers took over.

At some point during the pursuit, the fleeing vehicle lost a tire. The driver ultimately halted on the freeway shoulder near Citrus Avenue in the Fontana region and followed officers' instructions. The individual was taken into custody without additional confrontation.
