The deadly encounter occurred around 9:30 a.m. on Monday at a transit stop located near the intersection of Darnestown Road and Quince Orchard Road. Authorities had responded to reports of an individual brandishing a firearm at the location.

When officers arrived, they encountered a man who appeared to be loading ammunition into a handgun. Police opened fire, striking the individual. Emergency responders rushed the man to a nearby medical facility, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Officials have not yet released the identity of the deceased. Investigators are examining the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting. The incident prompted a temporary closure of the surrounding area while detectives collected evidence.
