A man who allegedly opened fire on another vehicle was critically injured after fleeing the scene and colliding with a second car in Avondale, Arizona, azfamily.com reports.

Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Avondale Boulevard and Van Buren Street at 12:40 p.m. following reports of a shooting directed at a moving vehicle. According to the Avondale Police Department, the suspect's vehicle left the area at high speed before striking another car at the junction of Thomas Road and Avondale Boulevard. The vehicle continued before coming to a final stop just south of Bermuda Drive.

The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital in extremely critical condition. The driver of the vehicle struck during the flight sustained minor injuries. The original targets of the shooting were unharmed.

Avondale Boulevard at Thomas Road remained closed while investigators processed the scene.
