Driver hits four pedestrians during police pursuit in Culver City, crashes at McDonald's

A driver fleeing police struck at least four pedestrians in Culver City and Los Angeles before crashing into a McDonald's drive-thru. No injuries were life-threatening.

A driver deliberately targeted pedestrians during a police pursuit through Culver City and into Los Angeles on Tuesday evening, abc7.com reports. At least four people were struck before the chase ended in a crash at a McDonald's drive-thru.

Culver City Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Atenza said the incident began around 7 p.m. when officers initiated pursuit of a vehicle. The Los Angeles Police Department joined the chase as it crossed into their jurisdiction.

Atenza said the driver appeared to be intentionally trying to hit pedestrians during the pursuit. The suspect also ran red lights and drove on the wrong side of the road. Atenza added that the suspect was possibly armed with a knife and that the vehicle had been linked to a prior carjacking.

Four pedestrians were confirmed struck, though Atenza noted additional victims may come forward. It remains unclear how many were hospitalised, but none of the injuries were considered life-threatening.

The pursuit ended when the suspect crashed at a McDonald's drive-thru, where officers took the driver into custody. One officer was also injured at the scene; that officer is in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries, Atenza said.

The suspect was transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
