Charlottesville Police seek suspect after rifle recovered near Rosser Avenue

Charlottesville police are searching for a 49-year-old city resident following a shots fired incident on Thursday morning, according to charlottesville.gov.

At approximately 9:03 a.m. on 4 June 2026, officers responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of 12th Street NW and Rosser Avenue. On arrival, they found evidence that at least one round had been discharged. No injuries or property damage were reported.

Detectives subsequently identified a suspect and recovered an AR-15-style semi-automatic rifle believed to be connected to the incident.

Kenyatta Rashad Anthony, 49, of Charlottesville, is now wanted on three charges: attempted malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a violent convicted felon — in violation of Virginia State Code sections 18.2-26/18.2-51, 18.2-53.1, and 18.2-308.2 respectively.

Anthony remains at large. He is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
