The Eureka Police Chief told the outlet that officers encountered an armed suspect upon arrival. Gunfire was exchanged, and the suspect was killed. No officers sustained injuries.

The scene remained active at around 10:30 p.m., the Eureka Police Department confirmed. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said it was taking over the investigation.
