A routine traffic inspection on Interstate 80 in the US state of Nebraska turned into a major drug bust when a police service dog detected a massive cocaine shipment. Officers had initially pulled over a vehicle that was driving unusually close behind a truck, according to a report by Fox News.

During the stop, the K-9 unit member Gable signaled that something was wrong with the car. A subsequent search uncovered 525 pounds — approximately 238 kilograms — of cocaine hidden in the vehicle, along with 9.3 grams of heroin.

The driver, identified as 23-year-old Gurarppan Gill from Yuba City, California, was arrested at the scene. He faces charges of illegal possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute.

The Nebraska State Patrol praised the operation on social media platform X, commending both the officers and their canine partner for what they described as outstanding work.

Fox News noted that similar large-scale drug seizures involving police dogs have occurred with increasing frequency across the United States in recent months. In April, for example, a Florida police dog detected over 900 kilograms of marijuana during another highway traffic stop.
