Vandalism at Washington DC Reflecting Pool: police seek witnesses
Law enforcement in the US capital has launched a public appeal for witnesses following acts of vandalism targeting the famous Reflecting Pool at the Lincoln Memorial. Court records show that on 9 June, sealing material around the basin was cut with a sharp object and portions of the finish were damaged. Dozens of bollards were also allegedly thrown into the water, according to documents reviewed by HBVL.
A separate incident occurred on 19 June, when footage captured an individual reaching into the water and possibly detaching material. The recordings were made from a distance and are rather unclear. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward, hoping the appeal will help identify the perpetrator.
The damage comes shortly after millions of dollars were spent renovating the iconic landmark in the American capital.
