Six men died from gunshot wounds in five separate killings, including one double murder, across Puerto Rico during Friday night, according to the latest figures released Saturday by the Police, as reported by EFE via HolaNews.

While homicides occur almost daily in the Caribbean territory, law enforcement officials noted that six deaths in one night is not typical for the island, which has a population of just over three million.

The first fatal shooting took place in Arecibo, on the northern coast, at 5:39 p.m. local time. A man whose identity has not yet been determined was gunned down on the shoulder of a road in that municipality.

The second incident was reported at 8:52 p.m. in Gurabo, also in the north, where an exchange of gunfire left two people dead. Officers who responded to the scene found a vehicle riddled with bullet holes. Inside the car was the body of one man, while another male victim lay dead on the pavement. Both had suffered fatal gunshot wounds.

In Trujillo Alto, located south of the capital, a 17-year-old teenager was shot to death shortly after midnight at 12:09 a.m. in the parking area of a residential complex. Investigators recovered numerous shell casings, magazines, and ammunition at that location.

The fifth victim, a man between 25 and 30 years old, was found shot and stabbed at 1:37 a.m. in Hato Rey, the financial and commercial district of San Juan.

The final killing involved a 34-year-old man with a prior criminal record who died from multiple gunshot wounds in Barceloneta, in the northern part of the island. Police received a 911 call around 12:23 a.m. alerting them to a body lying on the road. When officers arrived, they discovered the deceased male with several bullet wounds.

Authorities indicate that most violent deaths in Puerto Rico are connected to score-settling between criminal organizations and activities tied to the illegal drug trade.
