Dispatchers received a call on Tuesday from 48-year-old Jamie Adkins, who stated she had just shot her husband. Sheriff's deputies, Santa Claus Police officers, and Indiana State Police responded to the residence.

Officers attempted to contact Adkins but were unable to reach her. Upon entering the home, they found her husband, 49-year-old John Adkins, deceased.

Jamie Adkins was discovered with a gunshot wound. An ambulance transported her to a hospital in Owensboro, where she later died from her injuries.

The circumstances that led to the shooting remain unclear. Indiana State Police have confirmed that autopsies will be conducted in both Vanderburgh and Spencer counties.
